Anita Doak

Anita Doak was born and raised in Lenoir, North Carolina.  While in high school she developed an interest in  genealogy, an interest that would take her searching through the records of virtually every courthouses in Western North Carolina.  She traced her family history back to the year 1740 before her high school graduation.

Anita graduated from Caldwell Community College with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts before marrying Ken Doak and moving to Michigan.  Her research continued through correspondence before relocating with husband and daughter to Columbia in 1990.  Her second daughter was born two years later.  Travel with her family has taken her throughout the United States, including Alaska.  Her family research has taken her back to the 1500’s.

When her daughters started school, Anita returned to school too and in 1998 graduated at the top of her class from Southeastern Paralegal Institute.  After graduation, she joined Dubois Closing and Title Services where she searches titles throughout middle Tennessee.

Besides raising two daughters, Anita has been very active as a Girl Scout leader and room mother for her daughter’s classes.  She has volunteered to help the National Park Service to create on-line indices for Civil War soldiers.  The indices are available for public use at national parks and battlefields throughout the eastern United States   She also participated in the Maury County Loose Records Project where she transcribed 19th century courthouse records for online entry.  Anita has also been very active in Columbia Soccer Association where she currently serves as treasurer.
